Artist Statement

I have been creating beautiful pottery since 1995.  My love for art expanded when I established EastMeetsWest Pottery Studio and Gallery in Winchester, VA from 2002 to 2006.  After owning a gallery and studio for 4 years, I developed lots of my inspiration and ideas for pottery design from customized pots for customers and through teaching pottery for children.  I am always amazed at the creativity of children.   Kids have no fear to try new forms and new colors, and I create my pottery in the same way too.  I love colorful and energized art and often apply this concept in my pottery.  The style of my pottery is to combine the wheel-thrown forms with hand-built forms.  Carving and slipped glazes are 2 methods that I often use on my pots.

Hand made pottery has existed in our lives for many thousands of years, and prior to mass production of ceramics, it was the only way to produce functional and artful ceramics.  I like to create both functional and sculpture ceramics.  The nature of my clay work is to create artistic pottery that people can enjoy in their daily life, no matter whether it is functional or decorative.
